During the summer of 2020, I interned at The Ellsworth American, a small newspaper in Downeast Maine that covers Hancock County, that includes Acadia National Park. On assignment, I always had my camera with me in the passenger seat, and my goal was to document what this tumultuous summer was like for different kinds of businesses and people in the small fishing town I found myself in. Hopefully my photos and interviews give a sense of that.
Driving along tire-tracked roads, I noticed a lot of signs, from "Black Lives Matter" to "White Lives Matter" to "Smile" to a church sign that simply said, "Jesus." Some were vandalized, some were taken down. But because of their preponderance, I include them here.
